At a special-called Board meeting on February 24, the Mount Calm ISD Board of Trustees voted to name Jay Underwood as the Lone Finalist for Superintendent.
Mr. Underwood brings 30 years of experience in education, most recently serving as Deputy Superintendent of Anna ISD in Collin County. Throughout his career, he has held various leadership roles, including Deputy Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, Executive Director of Human Resources, Principal, Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, and High School English Teacher and Coach. His diverse experience has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of school operations, instructional leadership, and student success.
A proud Texas native, Jay grew up in Venus, Texas, and is excited to return to a small-town school district where he can foster strong community connections. He is committed to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment for students and staff while working closely with parents and stakeholders to ensure excellence in education.
Jay earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Texas and a master’s degree from Lamar University. Beyond his professional career, he enjoys spending time at the lake, playing golf, and cherishing moments with his family. He has been married to his wife, Stephanie, for 30 years, and they have two sons, Nolan (24) and Hayden (22). This year, he celebrated the arrival of his first grandchild, a beautiful baby girl named Gracie Lynn, born on February 12th.
With a passion for education and a heart for community, Jay Underwood is honored to serve as the Superintendent of Mount Calm ISD and looks forward to leading with dedication, integrity, and vision.
